In 1999 the idea of a website that caters to Colorado mountain biking enthusiasts was discussed by three college students and friends while eating a really cheap, rather disgusting pizza. By the end of the night TrailCentral.com was on the verge of creation. The only obstacle was that none of the 3 people who wanted to make this website knew a thing about HTML. A week later $50 was spent on a really lousy piece of software that helped us create our first web page. (I think it took about 3 minutes to load the homepage.) Like I said, none of us knew what we were doing. Over the next several years, while studying and mountain biking, we upgraded our software and started to learn more about what makes websites work. Over the next several years the website started to grow, the number of unique visits started to skyrocket, and our knowledge of website design improved significantly. At the same time, one of the original founders graduated from CU and started his own business in Denver, CO, while another started making bags of cash selling on eBay, which left me as the sole owner and manager of a successful website.
The original mission statement was "At TrailCentral.com you'll be able to find complete trail information on Colorado trails, such as; trail listings and directions, trailhead weather, local bike shops, as well as complete event listings." TrailCentral will continue to do a GREAT job as a trail resource. In addition TrailCentral will strive to help mountain bikers look beyond the handlebars by nurturing an online community of Colorado mountain bikers.
